Nelson PC offers digital solutions

Nelson PC was started by Stevland Ambrose in 2001 with the simple idea of offering on-site support for residential computer users in the Nelson area. “At that time, Nelson PC seemed like such a great name,” says Ambrose. “And now we’ve kind of outgrown it because there’s so many things that we’re helping people with.”

The mandate remains the same, however: to help computer users people have more fun and/ or be more productive.

While Nelson PC still has a lot of residential clients, the bulk of the company’s revenue is increasingly from small business clients.

“Businesses tend to have more computers, of course,” says Ambrose. “But they also are always looking to improve how they embrace technology, remain competitive, and streamline their business practices.”

Located at 724 8th St, Nelson PC Sales + Support also offer graphic design, laptop, desktop and peripheral sales, data recovery and networking services. Depending on the issue, the company offers on-site, in-house and emergency consultation services.

The business has become popular with Mac users who need technical support and repair services for their Macs and iPhones.

The company also offers one-stop web solutions including domain name registration, web hosting and web site design. Recent projects include new sites for such diverse organizations as Vince DeVito Footwear, Lynch Building Inspection Services, Avrell Fox the artist, and the Kootenay Romanian Relief Organization.

Though his range of services has expanded, Ambrose says he works hard to keep his services as speedy as they’ve ever been. Nelson PC maintains a 24-hour turnaround on most support issues, and they’ll complete repairs in the office or in the field.

He says speed is what good computer service is all about. And, in an age when people are very attached to their computers and gadgets, it’s also about building trust with customers.
“I think trust is a huge issue,” he explains. “You have to be able to trust your technology support person like you trust your doctor or your car mechanic.”
