Who
KICS is a non-profit that provides Web Hosting and tech support to non-profits, commercial groups and individuals in the Kootenays. Web Hosting for non-profit groups is free with membership.
KICS also provides and maintains Public Internet terminals;
a Nelson-based email discussion group called The Nelson List; and supports other internet-related projects throughout the area.
What
This was a web site redesign and retrofit.
KICS has had various sites and projects online for over 10 years, and the first step was to clean up the rat's nest of files on the server, isolate the files that were still being accessed, and remove the clutter.
The next step was to organize the broad range of material for the new site, and to update all the text. The FAQ section, especially, required a high level of organization. The resulting navigation system hides the huge volume of support information that the site offers to its users
The site also includes an internal search engine to enable visitors to find the information they require.
